Someone once said to me “kawawa naman si Zoren sa condo, paano s’ya maglalaro?” (I pity Zoren, how can he play in your place). Well, our place might be limited in space, but as far as I know, I’ve given my son a lot of opportunities to play! Here are examples how we Play for Real:
Running around may not be an option, but Z sure has the energy and imagination to be Superman!
Since the bathroom is the safest place in the condo to get dirty, why not use the time there to paint?
Bath time should not just be about getting clean. Use that time to talk, play with bath toys, do experiments. After all, it is the only place you can really be gadget-free.
Once, Z and I just sat on the window ledge and waited for airplanes.
We can’t keep Z away from the kitchen so might as well let him help. Just make sure you use kid-friendly kitchen tools.
The simplest game ever: peek-a-boo!
Our imagination and creativity make up for the space that we lack. And I think it makes playing more fun!

We attended J & J’s event advocating active sensory play in kids, which is the inspiration of this post. During that event, Z experienced how it is to play outside and with other kids!

We don’t live in a condo but my son and I just stay in the house. We do our activity at home because I prefer it that way. Ayaw ko kasi siya masanay na lumalabas o nangangapitbahay.
playtime is quality time with kids, regardless of available space. Thanks for showing us how to do it.
I want my son to be gadget free too. I also make sure that we have real play every night before going to bed. That’s our way of making bawi on the hours that I am away – working. =)
I’m an advocate of real play too. Iba pa din kasi yung actively playing ang bata.
Looks like he’s having so much fun!(:
My daughter loves Pretend Play too. Your son looks adorable ; )

Well, I can relate. Although, we don’t live in a condominium, our apartment is small for us, since we are a family of 6. 🙂 Anyway, ang cute ng son mo and yes, we love cooking and playing “pretend.”
It looks like your baby’s enjoying his playtime! nakakatuwa mga pictures ninyo! 🙂
Hihi! Thank you!
I agree! It doesn’t matter if your space is small. You can still find a lot of imaginative and creative ideas for real play. Our apartment has limited space too but our own Z still gets lots of real play. 🙂
We also live in a condo unit, and I agree that we need creativity and imagination to enable our kids to play despite the small space we live in. That used to work when my son was small, but now that he’s a grade-schooler, he prefers having other kids as playmates, so he goes condo unit hopping sometimes to make his playtime more fun.
I believe that kids can play anywhere since they mostly use their imaginations especially when they play alone.
This gives me an idea! Not that we live in a condo right now, I’m planning kasi soon to have once. 🙂
It is always important to spend quality time with kids either on a large area or confined spaces. Bet you are doing the right thing as parents- kudos to you and your devotion to your child.
