#ToastingToGoodBites at Toast Asian Kitchen and Tasting Room

Toast Asian Kitchen and Tasting Room is one of the new concept restaurants that opened at Ayala Malls The 30th in Pasig City.

They describe their menu as playful Asian fusion, giving our well-loved comfort food tasty twists. But, before I share what we had for lunch that day, here’s a gallery of the restaurant. It had a rustic vibe with its brick walls, black metal light fixtures and mismatched chairs. The aesthetics gave off that “let’s drink” kinda feels but no, we went there for lunch and I had my kids with me so no drinky-drinky for this momma (soon though!)

Fortunately, the food was delicious so I forgot about not being able to have a sip of alcohol! We were 5 in the table who finished the food good for 8!

These were the food items I ordered for Bry, Z and Y before Michelle and Ro came. I was just disappointed because Z told the server he wanted burgers, so she suggested the Bahn Mini. We asked to put the pickled vegetables on the side since the kid will just remove it. However, she didn’t inform us that it also had sriracha-mayo so when Z bit into it, he spit it out! So, I had to order the Chicken Poppers and Fries from their Kids’ Menu but he liked his Dad’s Crispy Beef Rice Bowl better maybe because of its sweet taste. Y almost finished her Roasted Corn Soup before dozing off!

The dishes served to us really lived up to being playful and comforting. I especially liked the Blacksa (which is debuting today!) with a lot of seafood good enough for sharing and the broth just had a bit of spice without losing its taste! I would also go back for the Salmon Belly Teriyaki Rice Bowl because anything I can scoop and eat without the need for the other hand (moms will relate to this!) gets a big check in my book. Do take note that Rice Bowls are available from 11 am to 2 pm only. And if you’re thinking of unwinding with a bottle of wine or beer since they have a wide selection of liquors and cocktails, the Wagyu Cubes Yakitori and Thai Basil Chicken Poppers will make the perfect match!

Michelle and Ro both liked the Tapioca and Mango Trifle and Z finished the Dark Chocolate Mousse while I didn’t fancy any of the desserts.

We will visit this resto again because:

  • the other items in the menu seem worth a try like the Gyozig and Slow-cooked Pork Buns.
  • the servings are good for 2 persons with generous amount of meat gives value for your money.
  • they have high chairs and a kids’ menu (but they can put a little more effort in the presentation so that the kids will enjoy!)
  • restrooms are available inside so you don’t need to go outside of the restaurant.

Breakfast with the Mommas at Toast Manila

A long, leisurely breakfast is already a treat to most moms.

A long, leisurely breakfast prepared in a restaurant shared among mommy friends is a luxury!

Most often than not, breakfast is rushed or at worse, skipped. This might be the underlying reason why my mommy friends and I formed a “breakfast group”, sampling the breakfast places sprouting in our area. And I was so happy when we got invited to Toast Manila!

I’ve been really curious about this place ever since a friend posted a picture of smoked salmon atop a brioche on her feed. From there I learned that their menu is based on breakfasts from around the world.

Breakfast from around the world! America, Philippines and Norway!

If breakfast always looked this good, then I swear, I will have no complains for the rest of the day! Just look at those servings and presentation. Yup, I was one happy momma that morning, even if my little Y was fussy!

Everything was drool-worthy! But I’ll probably go back for the Norwegian because it’s salmon haha! And their homemade hollandaise sauce was smooth and not overpowering. I also liked that the tapa was in the sweet side, making me reach for more rice!

Of course, when you’ve had savory dishes, desserts are bound to follow!

Because I’m not too fond of mangoes, I went for the Champorado. The kesong puti gave it a surprising salty taste, though they can add a little bit more since the Malagos tablea made the Champorado thick. It was chocolate-y and comforting, perfect for a rainy morning! They also have specialty chocolate drinks that can pass of as dessert, like this S’mores Iced Chocolate which my husband ordered:

It was a very filling breakfast that none of us had lunch anymore! Speaking of lunch, Toast Manila also has a lunch menu which developed from customers’ suggestions. And soon, they’ll be offering steak! Can’t wait to go back as the ambiance is perfect for a chill date night (while you get your car washed at the garage next door)

Waking Up to Bake N’ Bacon

Our original Sunday plan for my parents’ wedding anniv got a little further down South because Salcedo Market was closed. We found ourselves in Solenad 3, Nuvali, in a modern-looking breakfast place, Bake N’ Bacon.

2

The industrial design of the place was striking and the colors worked well together. It didn’t give off a breakfast place vibe, though there was something comforting in the hexagon-tiled floors and mismatched chairs.

Bacon lovers, rejoice! The menu in this place is overflowing with this salty, fatty, highly-addictive piece of pork. There’s just 1 or 2 items without bacon but you can order it from appetizer to drinks to dessert!

food2

These are some of our orders (we ordered a lot, haha!) They offer an All-Day Breakfast Plate (P275) where you have a choice between pancakes, waffles, french toast or (bacon) fried rice to go with a big serving of bacon (both picture on the left). A really cute order was the BLT Sandwich, P298 (top right), where the bagel was wrapped in bacon! My Burger Wafflewich (P246) didn’t have bacon though. I forgot to take a picture of their Baked Potatoes (all sides are priced at P89). Fluffy, boiled baby potatoes drenched in cheese sauce and BACON JAM! It was super really good!

Dips and drinks – baconnified!!!

The food can get a little bit salty or a tad too sweet may be because of the combinations. My kids didn’t mind though as Z finished his pancakes and Y tasted everything!

Yummy bacon!

Hopefully, they open a branch in Metro Manila soon so that there’ll be no need to go South to get a bacon fix! Until then, drool over their menu on Facebook and Instagram.

BTW, dogs and cats are welcome inside the resto but be sure to bring your pets their own treats as bacon is not good for them!
